Recovering valuable coal from middlings through secondary grinding and advanced washing has become an effective approach to improving resource utilization, product quality, and overall plant efficiency.
In June 2026, Henan Zhengzhou Mining Machinery Co., Ltd. (ZK MACHINE) successfully provided a customized wet ball mill solution for a traditional coal washing plant in Shaanxi Province, China. The project demonstrates how tailored grinding equipment can help coal preparation plants unlock the recovery potential of coal middlings.
The customer encountered significant challenges while upgrading its existing production line. Due to the specific requirements of its refined coal separation process, standard grinding equipment available on the market could not fully meet the plant's operating conditions and production requirements.
To address these challenges, ZK MACHINE quickly assembled its technical team and conducted a dedicated equipment selection and technical evaluation with the customer in June 2026.
Following several rounds of technical discussions and process optimization, ZK MACHINE developed a customized wet ball mill solution based on the customer's material characteristics, process requirements, site conditions, and target capacity.
The customized solution was designed to achieve an effective balance between grinding performance, processing capacity, and energy consumption. After technical evaluation and confirmation, both parties successfully signed the purchase contract, and the wet ball mill has entered the manufacturing stage.
As one of ZK MACHINE's key grinding products, the wet ball mill supplied for this project is designed specifically for the wet grinding of coal middlings.
The equipment features an edge-drive configuration with center discharge. The slurry is lifted and fed into the mill through the feed screw assembly before entering the grinding chamber.
During operation, the rotating mill shell drives the grinding media into continuous cascading and impact motion. The material is subjected to repeated impact and grinding, allowing the required particle size to be achieved efficiently.
The ground material is discharged smoothly through the discharge grate, discharge screw, and discharge outlet.
